Tampon won't go in feels like a dead end?

First time, tried a couple times. I know where the hole is but when I get the tampon a little into the whole (about an inch.) it feels like it can't go any farther. My hymen is not fully covering my vagina and like i said the tampon is going in part way. Please help :(
